Power of Ping – Keith’s story

Through the people of Ping!, we regularly hear how table tennis has a powerful impact on lives and communities.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Ping! and to celebrate our decade, we’re releasing a series of short films telling the stories of some of the inspirational projects and people.

Transcending dementia through table tennis

Keith is gripped with Alzheimer’s disease and he often gets confused and panicky. However, when he plays table tennis, he becomes a different person; transported to a time when he was in full flow as a younger man and his anxieties disappear for a that brief moment.

Keith absolutely loves playing and his wife loves watching him at Abbeyfields Care Home in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, reminding her of their younger, happier days.

This film shows how Ping has the power to bring respite from people’s day-to-day struggles and joy into their lives.
